What do humans have in common with seals? A tongue-in-cheek answer: what we have in common is that both seals and humans sometimes like to relax on a sandy beach and bask in the sun.
Curious, did you know that a seal resting on the beach is drying its fur so that it can prepare to continue hunting and catching fish? All the more reason to give it a break then. Besides, everyone doesn't like to be disturbed while resting....
That's why it's worth remembering a few rules. They are simple, see for yourself!
- Despite its pleasing appearance, the seal is still a wild animal. Therefore, do not approach it or touch it. This is all for your safety. You may not have known, but seals can bite humans painfully and can also be carriers of many dangerous diseases.
- It is not only water that is its terrain, the seal is also a land animal. On land, the seal dries its fur and recuperates before the next hunt, but it also gives birth and raises offspring. Therefore, do not pour water on the seal.
- Only in an open space and without unnecessary observers will the seal rest. A crowd of observers gathering around a seal causes it unnecessary stress, which can be dangerous to its health and even its life. Importantly, seals don't like our four-legged pets either, so make sure your pet is right next to you in such a situation.
- You can always inform the relevant units of the seal's appearance. One of them is the WWF Blue Patrol. You will certainly get the information you need from them.
The sight of a seal on the Polish coast is sure to delight. But today you already know that you can only marvel at this view from a distance. A distance of 20 metres from the seal is the minimum you must keep. Equipped with this knowledge, you can safely head out for a walk to bask in the sun and recharge yourself with positive energy.
