What can be done to reduce plastic packaging?
Every day we come across an enormous amount of plastic packaging. They accompany us at home, when we go shopping. They are used to pack our breakfast for work or school. Unfortunately, their excess has serious consequences for the environment.
Every day we come across an enormous amount of plastic packaging. They accompany us at home, when we go shopping. They are used to pack our breakfast for work or school. Unfortunately, their excess has serious consequences for the environment.
That is why A day without plastic packaging, which is celebrated on 23 January, is the perfect opportunity to stop for a moment and reflect on our daily habits.
Plastic packaging, although light and convenient, takes hundreds of years to decompose. When discarded, they end up in landfills, incinerators, but unfortunately also in rivers and oceans, where they become a threat to animals and entire ecosystems. A day without plastic packaging is a great opportunity to make small changes in everyday life.
Here are some simple steps that everyone - child and adult alike - can take:
- Use reusable bags - take cloth bags or rucksacks for shopping instead of disposable bags.
- Choose products without packaging - buy fruit and vegetables in bulk, avoiding those packaged in plastic.
- Focus on glass and paper - choose products in packaging that can be reused or recycled.
- Give up plastic bags at school - Sandwiches and snacks can be packed in breakfast bags.
- Be creative - instead of buying new plastic containers, use jars or other containers you have at home.
Plastic Free Day is not only an annual celebration, but also an encouragement to take daily action to protect our planet. Every decision we make - even the smallest ones - matters. Using a cloth bag instead of a carrier bag or buying a product without plastic packaging are steps that will have great effects over time.
Let's remember that protecting the environment starts with us. Together, we can make plastic disappear from our daily lives and make the planet cleaner and friendlier for future generations.
