On Saturday, 5 July 2025, the citizens of Poznań had a unique opportunity to take part in the Book Exchange Action, organised at Wolności Square by the Waste Management Plant in Poznań and the environmental education portal Edu4Eco.pl.
Partners of the event were the Raczynski Library and Clothes to Give. The event lasted from 12:00 to 15:00 and attracted hundreds of people. Participants not only enriched their bookcases, but also really cared for the environment!

Sustainable book exchange - zero waste in practice
During the event, each participant could bring any number of books they had already read and, in exchange, choose as many from the copies available on site. The exchange was free of charge and all books were in very good condition. In this way, the event combined the promotion of reading z environmental education i working towards a circular economy.
Among the hundreds of books were both items donated by Raczynski Library, as well as publications collected under the headings "The Second Life of Things" from the Poznań Gratings. Each book found a new use - instead of being dusted on a shelf, it was given a second life.
Ecological meeting
The atmosphere at the event was extremely positive, with participants sharing recommendations, talking about literature and ecology. Many of them admitted that it was not only an opportunity for them to get new reads. It's also a way to take a more responsible approach to everyday choices. It is an example of how local action can strengthen social responsibility for the environment.

Unclaimed books? They still have a future!
Some of the books that have not found new owners will be donated to the Clothes to Donatewhich takes care of their onward circulation. This is an excellent illustration of the idea closed loop economy.
