Buy as much as you need, share things that are still useful, think twice before throwing away anything efficient. Fall in love with recycling and upcycling. Here's our advice for masters of waste handling!

What can I do?

In a world where we live fast, make decisions quickly it is important to stop sometimes and think about how my choices, my daily actions affect the environment, whether there is something I can do better. Does it have to be something big? No, small steps count. Here are a few ideas of what you can do to produce less waste every day, and thus look after the planet!

1
Use reusable packaging!
  • When going shopping, take reusable bags with you, preferably made of eco-friendly materials.
  • When buying fruit and vegetables, choose those by weight and pack them in their own reusable bags.
  • Use a breakfast bag instead of breakfast pouches.
  • Use a bidon instead of plastic packaging.
2
Buy less - as much as you really need.

Choose things that last and preferably only those you need! Don't buy "to stock up" or because something "might come in handy one day".

3
Pay attention to size.

If you buy bottled water, don't buy half-litre or smaller bottles. Choose the larger ones.

4

Avoid disposable crockery, such as paper plates, plastic cups and cutlery.

5
Save paper

Print documents double-sided or use paper printed on one side as a blotter.

6

Use rechargeable batteries instead of disposable, ordinary batteries.

7
Choose recycled products

If you buy plastic or plastic-packed products, choose ones made from recycled materials.

8

Avoid products packed in multiple layers of packaging.

9

Broken items, appliances - if possible, try to repair instead of throwing away.

10

Donate second-hand items you no longer need to those in need.

11

Buy products in returnable packaging that can be reused.

12

Use home composting facilities - you can make fertiliser from your bio-waste.

13

Use email instead of traditional letters.
